This bread is wonderful with soup. It’s the bees knees of gourmet Irish Soda Breads

  • 350g coarse wholemeal

    50g porridge oats

    25g Wheat germ

    25g oat bran

    75g plain flour

    1 heaped tsp bread soda

    40g melted butter

    1 egg 

    1-2 tbsp treacle

    400ml buttermilk

    seeds for the top

    Method:

    Preheat oven to 200ºC

    lightly grease loaf tin & dust with wholemeal flour.

    Place wholemeal, plain flour, soda, oatflakes, bran and wheatgearm in a large mixing bow and mix together

    Plut the buttermilk, egg and treacle in a bowl and beat until well mixed stir in the melted butter.

    Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix up – it is a wet mixture

    Pour the dough into the prepared tin.

    Bake for 50-60 minutes then turn onto a wire tray to cool.
